Ah, in that case you might want to invest in a bucket and hose–firefighters are paid by governments (state and local) in the interest of the greater good. Count that in for police, the food and drug administration, the interstate highway system and the military. If these protective measures benefit everyone then why should we exclude our neighbor’s daughter who needs an inhaler to breathe?
By all means, I invite you to enjoy tainted food, gigantic potholes, rampant crime and the electrical fire that burned down your house because there were no fire-safety codes imposed upon your property. And while you’re at it, make sure you request assistance from friends and family only using FedEx and UPS since you’ll no longer be needing the US Postal Service. Or governmental welfare assistance to help you rebuild your life.
As for me and the people covered under these granted governmental protections (that means you too, my friend, the socialist guardian) we will enjoy these paid-for-by-taxes rights graciously.

I don’t often get angry over politics, but today’s bill deserves credit for the monumental task it attempts to undertake–providing basic human care for all Americans. So, yes, I will build my privileged soapbox for the millions of people who had their own boxes kicked out from under them while they were amassing enormous bills during their chemo treatments, asking their child whether they “are really sick,” in an attempt to avoid another unpayable doctor’s bill, or trying to determine how they will possibly pay for their mother’s heart surgery because the condition was “preexisting” and it isn’t covered under insurance. Let’s give ourselves and our political leaders the benefit of the doubt here, folks; this is worth seeing it through.

where is the “like” button?
